Inside Nike’s Serena Williams building workplace
On this tour, we take you inside the largest building at Nike’s World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. Home to 2,750 people, it’s essentially a love letter to Serena Williams, celebrating her cultural impact across sport and design. As you’ll see, there’s even a 140-seat theatre named after her daughter, Olympia, while the restaurant walls are adorned with Wimbledon-inspired wallpaper.
Looking to capture the spirit of Serena as the “ultimate warrior-muse”, the designers conceived a building façade made up of dark armoured panels, referencing samurai battle dress. The layout is also built around natural flow and movement, which not only reflects Serena’s athletic dynamism but helps to break down siloes, enabling people from different teams to interact and overlap.
At the centre of the site is a 180-foot tower, the tallest building in Beaverton, while inside a 160-foot steel bridge connects four levels of design studios. This design means the entire production process, from sketch to prototype to finished product, can take place under one roof. You’ll also see how this state-of-the-art building embraces the surrounding Oregon landscape, with green roof terraces overlooking trees and wetlands. There’s abundant outdoor space for sport and relaxation, with plazas, gardens, courtyards and, of course, a sunken tennis court.
